McLaren has removed some camouflage from its upcoming Grand Tourer, giving a better indication of its styling
McLaren has released some fresh images of its upcoming Grand Tourer, ahead of the car’s confirmed official reveal in May. This new mule is wearing less camouflage than the model teased in the past, giving us a better indication of its styling.
These latest images show a long, low and wide mid-engined supercar, with a surprisingly large front overhang, presumably to accommodate a boot functional enough for long-distance touring. Stand-out features include McLaren’s trademark teardrop headlights, thin LED tail-lamps, a deep rear diffuser and a duck-tail rear spoiler.

McLaren’s new Grand Tourer will adopt the same mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive layout as the rest of the company’s range. Power will come from a twin-turbocharged V8 engine and the firm’s CEO, Mike Flewitt, has promised that the newcomer will be the lightest and fastest model in its class, with the best power-to-weight ratio.
When quizzed about the project, Flewitt said: “It’s a car that has been designed for distance and one that will also provide the comfort and space expected of a Grand Tourer. But with a level of agility never experienced before in this segment.”
The British manufacturer has previously confirmed that its new GT car will not form part of its existing model Series, instead being a unique, tailored model. McLaren has also stated that its GT car will “share its DNA with the 250mph McLaren Speedtail”. The extent or nature of the relationship has yet to be confirmed, however.
Now most of its camouflage has been removed, McLaren plans to push its Grand Tourer through its final stages of development. One such test will be a 1,000-mile drive between the company’s facility near Barcelona and its Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. The journey will be completed in a single stint by two drivers, with a full complement of luggage.
According to McLaren, its new model will feature an uncluttered interior, finished to the firm’s usual high standard. Flewitt also promised that, when it arrives, the new Grand Tourer will be the most usable mid-engined car built to date.
