Audi previews autonomous small car concept for Shanghai

Audi will be heading to the upcoming Shanghai motor show with a future-gazing concept car called the AI:me.

The concept, previewed in design sketches released alongside the announcement, is described as “the vision of an automated driving compact car for the megacities of tomorrow”.

The AI:me’s shape appears to evolve the brand’s design language significantly beyond production. Audi design boss Marc Lichte told Autocar last month that two concept cars “that are 10 or 15 years ahead” in terms of design will be revealed this year, with the second set to debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September. He also confirmed that the AI:me would be electric.

Audi used the 2017 Frankfurt motor show for a similar purpose, previewing the Aicon saloon and Elaine SUV concepts to show how advances in artificial intelligence and autonomy will shape the brand’s exterior and interior design. It’s thought the AI:me will also feature advanced artificial intelligence features, given its name.
